LiqTech Water A/S

LiqTech & The IMO Sulphur Cap

At LiqTech, we have long-term experience working with top marine water scrubber manufacturers, shipowners, and shipyards, and we have a market-proven solution to obtain constant IMO compliance.

In January 2020, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) implemented a new lower cap on sulfur emissions for international shipping to obtain a cleaner shipping industry. Inside the Emission Control Areas (ECA), the regulations are even stricter. This sets new standards for how ships should treat their scrubber process water.

We are here to remove unburned fuel oil, soot particles, ash, and heavy metals from water and take an active role in reducing world pollution. We care about the future, and at the same time, about growth. We see it as our mission to enable companies to grow stronger while meeting tomorrow’s environmental demands.

LiqTech has developed a compact and efficient scrubber water treatment system for both closed-loop and hybrid scrubbers that outperforms discharge limits regulated by the IMO. By working together with market leaders for several years, we have successfully installed retrofits and new-build scrubber water treatment systems on hundreds of vessels.

Be future compliant with a LiqTech open-loop conversion solution.

The IMO is already working on an approved work plan focusing on harmonizing the rules for scrubber wash water discharges. Most countries in Europe, together with China, Singapore, United States, India, and many more, are banning operation in open-loop mode in the ECA and even further restrictions pre-warned.

Our expertise in the marine scrubber industry and process water filtration will help you make growth sustainable – both in relation to profits and especially the environment. Our patented membrane technology is one of market most reliable solutions and further life cycle secured with focus on also improving clients Opex.

We are ready to convert your open-loop scrubber into a closed-loop system or hybrid scrubber. It is a compliant solution, which allows vessels to operate on non-compliant fuels (e.g. HFO) and further discharge clean water.

When operating in the ECA our hybrid solutions still allow vessel operation on non-compliant fuel, this with no discharge of process water.

With +20 years of experience in the filtration industry and +250 marine scrubber water treatment systems installed, we can provide you with a sustainable marine scrubber water treatment solution for current and future compliance.
